The path of this Canal began not far from the arches of the "Noyer aux enfants" bridge, starting from the Meldançon canal. It then followed the current layout of the rues Surgales and Célestin Philbois, went up along the rues de la petite Courtine and Camusat, to join, at the level of the Jaillard Mill on the canal of Planche Clément.

The rue Kleber (formerly Saint Jacques) spanned it by a small bridge, the 'Quails Bridge', at the emplacement of an old gate from the ramparts of the 12th century.
