Its surrounding walls on rue Linard Gonthier were built on top of the remaining roman ramparts. Today, it shelters the museum of Modern Art, composed of the private collection of Pierre and Denise Lévy, which covers French art from 1850 to 1950, with works of Picasso, Matisse, Derain, Dufy, etc. A collection of Art of Africa and Oceania allows an astonishing parallel between early 20th century paintings and their "primitive" influences. |
