Saint Loup, one of the first Bishops of Troyes and who defended the city against Attila in 460, was buried on this site in 479. A Basilica was built on his grave, and was replaced in the 12th century by the first Abbey St Martin Es Aires, whose foundations can still be seen in the front gardens. It was rebuilt during the 16th century, to resemble today's abbey. Restored in 1989, it was used for the Higher School of Applied Arts, and other university departments.
