Saint Nicolas's church, as we see it today, was built from 1526 to 1555, after the big fire of 1524, which had entirely destroyed the original church. It was used by the Viscounts of Champagne, lieutenants of the Counts de Champagne, as a chapel to a medieval castle that stood nearby, known as "the house of iron".
